December Class Topics:

  • K – 4th Grade Class: The Tundra
    $12 (+ tax) per participant
Brrrr! It’s cold outside! Come explore life in the coldest biome, the tundra. Students learn what makes life in the tundra biome so unique with hands-on activities, interactive experiments, and games. Students leave class with knowledge about life in this harsh biome and a snow globe they made in class!
  • 5th – 12th Grade Class: Dissection, It’s Vital! (Dissect a sheep brain & heart)
    $25 (+tax) per participant
Beginning with the heart, students construct paper models of the heart and trace the path of blood through the heart and body.  Students label a diagram of the heart, and then use that diagram as they dissect a sheep heart and identify each chamber, valve, and vessel.  Moving to the brain, students identify key structures on a diagram, and find those structures in an actual specimen as they dissect the sheep brain.  Students relate each major brain structure to a physiological function.  Students finish the class with an activity on neurological control by demonstrating different gaits and hypothesizing how the brain might signal muscles to perform each gait.
