January Homeschool Classes

Tuesdays, January 12 & 26
10 – 11:30 am
$12 (+ tax) per participant

Limited spots available. Adults who would like to participate in the class are able to register and pay the $12 fee for their own slot (if available). Admission to the Exhibits is not included. There are two ways to register: in person at the Guest Services desk in the Museum lobby or contact the Group Sales department during regular weekday business hours at groups@cookmuseum.org or (256) 898-6312.

January Class Topics:

K – 2nd Grade Class: Amazing Animals – Invertebrates
What do jellies, insects, arachnids, sea sponges, and snails have in common? They are invertebrates! Come learn all about the largest group of animals in the animal kingdom with Live Animal Presentations and hands-on activities. They may be squishy, stingy, and look strange, but they are some of the most interesting animals on earth.

3rd – 6th Grade Class: Power of Water
Water – we drink it, we swim in it, and it is essential for life, but did you know it is one of the most destructive forces on earth? Come enjoy learning about the force of water and the changes it makes on the Earth’s crust by performing scientific experiments and participating in hands-on activities.

7th – 12th Grade Class: 1 + 1 = 1 Meiosis!
When does 1 + 1 = 1?  When we’re talking about meiosis!  Come and observe reptiles and amphibians up close and identify some of their unique genes and traits.  Figure out why you may have inherited certain traits, but not others from your parents and model meiosis to create your own “Spud Bud” to take home!
